IR Media

Community media with a global identity, focused on international relations

Community Media

We’re not a public media funded by the state, nor a commercial media earning money from ads. We’re a non-profit organization, supported by our community and grants. All the money we make is used to run the project—no one profits personally from it

global identity

Global Identity

We don’t create content for just one single country from its perspective. Our team is multinational, and so is our audience. We choose topics that are relevant to multiple countries, and we show them from different points of view. This way we can offer you a true global perspective on world.

international relations

International Relations

It’s not just interactions between countries (like wars or treaties). It’s also an academic discipline which emerged after World War I to prevent similar conflicts. Although that didn’t happen, it still helps us understand why countries behave a certain way and what rules they do(n’t) follow.

Btw “IR” in IR Media stands for International Relations 😉

Our values

We don’t pretend to be objective

Absolute media objectivity is unattainable. Everyone is influenced by the environment they were born into: family, socioeconomic class, and country with its historical and political context. We believe it’s much healthier to admit our biases than lying that they don’t exist. Each of our reporters has a short bio in the ‘Our Reporters’, describing factors that influence(d) them.

We are young, and doing journalism for young people

To be taken seriously, young journalists have to mimic language and topic choices of old people – since those are the ones in power in the majority of media. As a result, the media produce content that doesn’t speak to young people and feeds the myth that they are ‘not interested in politics’. At IR Media, we let young people choose topics that genuinely interest them and cover them in a way appropriate to their age.

We Provide Context

To really understand why something is happening, we need to know what led up to it. Yet most media simply quote individual events without linking them to each other or putting them in context, giving a fragmented view of history. At IR Media, we explain each topic clearly, in a way that’s easy to understand for anyone (even those encountering it for the first time).

Our interest crosses the borders

Unlike most media focused on a single country, IR Media has a global identity with journalists from all over the world. By combining our perspectives, we create content interesting for several countries, helping them to understand each other better. Content that motivates people to care even about things that don’t directly concern them, because we know it’s too late to start caring once we are affected.

We Are Feminists

In the 21st century, inequalities persist between men and women. Even in “emancipated” societies women suffer prejudice, condescending behaviour, sexualisation or even violence – everyday realities that men do not. At IR Media, we are deeply concerned about the different reality women experience. And we are fully committed to ensuring our team does not contribute to this problem.

We Are Free

We believe that free access to information is a basic human right, not a privilege. The entirety of our content is available for free. If you’d like to support us financially, buy our merch or contribute to our crowdfunding campaign. Those with limited financial resources can contribute by completing small tasks… You can learn more about this support option HERE.

Anna Kuklíková

Founder & Editor-in-Chief

I was born and raised in the Czech Republic, after I turned 18, I started to travel – mainly to Eastern Europe where I made a lot of friends. I’ve always been interested in the functioning of the communist regime. The former Eastern Bloc countries remain my main focus to this day. I have a bachelor degree in Ukrainian Studies & International Relations from Masaryk University. I spent one semester at Sciences Po Paris during my Erasmus. Currently I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Information and Communication at Université de Haute Alsace.
